Overview

Barcelona's old city is one of the most walked neighborhoods in Europe! The tour starts on La Rambla, moves through the Raval and drops into the Gothic Quarter, covering two kilometers of streets that have been continuously inhabited since Roman times! The audio gives you the full story behind what you are walking through, from a medieval bread riot to the accidental death of the most influential architect the city ever produced. I'm Miquel, born and raised in Barcelona, and I spent years as a journalist writing about this city before I started making audio guides! Some of what you will hear along the way: - Mercat de la Boqueria: one of Europe's oldest markets, operating on this site since the 1100s - Palau Güell: Gaudí's most underrated building, commissioned by the man who funded half his career - Barcelona Cathedral: Gothic landmark built over a Roman temple, with thirteen geese living in the cloister - Plaça de Sant Felip Neri: a quiet square that absorbed a Civil War bomb in 1938, the damage still visible on the walls - Font de Canaletes: the fountain where Barcelona football fans have gathered to celebrate wins since the 1930s The audio runs alongside the walk, giving you the background on what you are looking at as you move through it. A lot of what makes these streets interesting is invisible without someone explaining what happened here and why it mattered! That is what the guide does! The tour is fully self-paced! Pause it, take a detour, sit down for a coffee and pick it up again when you are ready. There is no group, no fixed departure time and no one waiting for you. One hour is a reasonable pace if you keep moving! Add another hour if you plan to stop at the market or the Palau Güell. Important ticket tips! Whether you go inside any of the attractions along this route is entirely up to you! Mercat de la Boqueria is free to enter. Palau Güell requires a ticket and advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly on weekends! Barcelona Cathedral has free entry during certain hours but charges admission at other times of day. The Roman tombs at Plaça de la Vila de Madrid are free and open to walk through when the gates are unlocked!

Starting on the Miro mosaic right in the pavement of La Rambla set the tone. So many people walk over it without knowing. Loved this tour.

The Bishop's Bridge in the Gothic Quarter is as gorgeous as everyone says and the audio told me the surprising truth about how new it actually is.

El Peto, the kiss mosaic made of tiny photos, was a hidden gem I would have completely missed. This tour is full of those moments.

Wonderful walk through the old town. The Boqueria market was heaving so I came back early next morning, my own call. Everything else perfect.

Palau Guell being a Gaudi you almost walk past was a great reveal. The Gothic Quarter alleys came alive with the commentary.
