Overview

This self-guided walking tour will take you through the City of London, which is the leading centre of banking and finance for the whole country. Our tour will begin at St Paul’s underground station and finish at the Tower of London. Along the way we will stop at the Lloyds Building, the Mansion House, the Bank of England, Leadenhall Market and visit several churches in between. Many first-time visitors to London will want to know about the general history of the country and to see the oldest parts of London. This walking tour will do both. We will also delve deeply into the stories of the Kings and Queens who led the nation and see some of the commercial buildings that play an important role in history. Today very few people live in the City of London, so it has changed completely since the time when it was the most important settlement in the whole country. London has a fascinating history and I want to tell you the stories that I find most interesting. I’m also a visitor to this country even though I’ve now been here for over 30 years. Please come along on the journey where I will tell you stories that both first-time and return visitors will find educational and entertaining. Hi, my name is Daniel. I’m originally from New York but I moved to London as a student. I currently work at the National Portrait Gallery and have previously worked in all the major London museums including the British Museum, National Gallery, V&A, Science Museum, and others. I am an official tour guide and gained my first qualification in 2018. I am an art historian with a love of social history and am available for private walking and museum tours. The tour begins outside St Paul’s Underground Station Stops on the walk: Temple Bar St Paul’s Cathedral Statue of Queen Anne Statue of John Donne St Augustine’s Watling Street and the phone boxes Wood Street tree St Mary le Bow church The Guildhall The Mansion House Statue of the Duke of Wellington Bank of England Royal Exchange Greathead Monument Jamaica Wine House The Gherkin St Helen Bishopsgate The Lloyd’s Building Leadenhall Market The Two Mice The Monument St Dunstan in the East All Hallows by the Tower Tower of London

As a visitor I was able to explore the financial district at a comfortable pace and the self guided format worked perfectly. The Tower of London finale felt epic after passing the Bank of England and Mansion House.
