Overview

Welcome to Alex’s self-guided tour around Glasgow city centre. During this tour, you will get to know Glasgow throughout the centuries. Your guide Alex is a historian with degrees in literature and Scottish history who is currently researching for her PhD in these subjects. She has been tour guiding full time for over three years now and as a local of Glasgow, she knows all the secret gems. We start in front of Glasgow Cathedral and jump straight into the history and stories of Scotland's largest city. Glasgow has its humble beginnings with the arrival of St. Mungo, the founder of this vibrant city, who will be our constant companion throughout the tour. Aside from the fantastic architecture inside the Cathedral, you will explore what is left of the Medieval city centre surrounding it. Then, following along the old High Street, we wander to the Old Tolbooth Steeple which is one of the most instagramable spots of the city. Here, we begin exploring Glasgow’s imperial history when making our way through Merchant City and we will meet some historic figures on George Square. If you are into Outlander, you're in luck! because we will see two filming locations as well! The final leg of our tour of Glasgow will take us into the bustling city centre from where you can continue to explore Glasgow’s history if you wish. An insider list of recommendations awaits you at the end of the tour, with places to visit, eat, and drink. All of this you will be able to experience in about 2 hours and a distance of 2.5 miles. So what are you waiting for?
