Overview

Hi, I’m Matthias Berger, born and raised right here in Vienna, which means I’ve heard more Strauss waltzes than traffic lights. I’ll take you on a walking tour through the heart of Vienna to show you its most beautiful attractions and the stories that make them special. We’ll trace the footsteps of emperors, composers, and a few accidental legends, including a statue nicknamed “Our Lord of the Toothache” and a cathedral bell made from melted Turkish cannons. Not exactly what you expect in a city famous for cake and concerts. The walk begins at the State Opera and ends at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. You’ll pass some of Vienna’s highlights, Hotel Sacher with its famous chocolate cake, the peaceful courtyard of the Albertina, the Monument Against War and Fascism, and the Capuchin Crypt, where generations of Habsburg rulers rest beneath the city streets. I’ll share the little stories that make Vienna unique, like a secret symbol of Austrian resistance hidden in plain sight or the giant mastodon bone that once inspired legends of real giants. Music is part of Vienna’s identity. You’ll hear the legacy of Strauss and Beethoven, but also the newer sounds that keep the city alive. This self guided tour is designed to give you the inside stories behind Vienna’s landmarks, mixing history, culture, and a few surprises that most visitors miss. It’s all easy to explore on foot, so take your time and enjoy the streets, the architecture, and the details you might otherwise overlook. By the end, you’ll have a new perspective on Vienna, one that combines the city’s classical charm with its little-known secrets, giving you plenty of stories to share and Instagram shots to envy.

Lovely self guided walk through Vienna core. The app guided my steps clearly and the scenery from the Opera to St Stephen's was stunning. I loved the balance of grand buildings with quirky little stories.

Clear prompts and gentle pacing let me savour every stop. I wandered the Albertina courtyard and lingered by the monument, then headed toward the cathedral with a smile.

Beautiful route and easy to follow on my phone. I paused for photos by the cathedral bell and enjoyed the quiet corners after a busy morning. The stories felt intimate and well balanced with the scenery.

Nice overall tour but the late stretch was a bit fast for me. My legs got a little tired, yet the route along the Opera area was gorgeous and the ending by St Stephen's is unforgettable.

Super convenient to do on my own time. I liked the route from the Opera to the cathedral and the little legends kept me curious. No crowds, just a smooth self guided vibe.
