Overview

If there’s a theme to this walk, it’s surprises, certainly I had a few myself. These include the very existence of a working canal in the centre of London and… well, if I told you, they wouldn’t be surprises anymore, would they? Let’s just say they involve architecture, history, commerce, flora, and even a touch of exotic fauna. And if you manage not to get splashed by the fountains or the ducks, consider that a bonus. Hi, I am Ian. I’m a retired doctor with a love for the UK’s landscapes, trails and hidden gems. As a volunteer ranger and hobby hedgelayer, I’ve spent years exploring the parks, canals and historic streets that make Britain so special. On this tour we’ll start near King’s Cross and St Pancras, exploring their iconic architecture and learning how these stations survived near-demolition and became global landmarks. From there, we follow the Regent’s Canal towpath, passing vibrant squares, reclaimed industrial sites, and a small wildlife sanctuary, all tucked into the city’s busy streets. The walk finishes in Regent’s Park, a Royal Park offering green spaces, gardens, and elevated views of London’s skyline. Highlights you’ll discover: • The extraordinary Gothic design of St Pancras Station (and how it was nearly lost) • King’s Cross - from steam to sorcery • Granary Square’s playful fountains and industrial past • The transformation of Gasholder Park • A canal-side wildlife sanctuary amid steel and trains • Camden’s lively locks and markets • Regent’s Park - calm, classic, and beautifully green Perfect for curious walkers, history lovers, and anyone who enjoys exploring London beyond the obvious sights.

Beautiful morning walk from King's Cross to Regent's Park. The pace was relaxed and the canal bits felt wonderfully unexpected, like little secret corners in the city.

Honestly this self guided walk on my phone showed me a fresh side of London. The pace was just right and the Granary Square fountains were a delight.

Took this on a sunny afternoon and kept my own pace, stopping for photos by the wildlife sanctuary and the old warehouses. It felt like a little city revealed, not the usual tourist route.

The route is lovely, my battery got low mid walk so I paused a bit more than planned. Still enjoyed the quiet stretches along the canal.

As a history buff I appreciated the St Pancras section and the canal history. King's Cross has transformed remarkably.
