Overview

With this audio tour, you can learn about the world's largest museum. You will discover the Louvre's rich history and fabulous collection of art and objects, dating from pre-history to 1848. Beyond the Mona Lisa, the museum holds the treasures of humanity — the Hammurabi Stone (the world's first set of laws), Ancient Babylonian and Egyptian Temples, Greek statues, Medieval European art, Renaissance painting and sculpture, and so much more! The tour starts on the lower level in what was once a medieval fortress. From there you will discover magnificent sculptures from Ancient Greece in the Caryatid Ballroom. Marvel at the world’s most iconic statues: the Venus de Milo and Nike, the Winged Victory of Samothrace. See the Royal Jewels in the breathtaking Apollo Gallery, a model for the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Of course, the star of the Louvre is the enigmatic Mona Lisa! You will be transported by the hypnotic power of this enigmatic portrait, and learn how da Vinci endowed her with the famous “changing” smile. Discover Renaissance masterpieces by Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, and more. And discover the iconic works of art that have shaped Western Civilization since the dawn of man. To enter the museum, it is necessary to reserve online for a specific day and time. We strongly advise that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your entry time – the lines are quite long to get in. Please note: due to a recent robbery, the Apollo Gallery is currently closed, but it will reopen soon.

This tour saved my Louvre visit. Going straight to the Mona Lisa with context and then exploring the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory with explanations was perfect.

The Egyptian antiquities section was incredible with the audio. Learned so much about the artifacts and how they ended up in Paris. Time well spent.

Helped me navigate this massive museum efficiently. The Delacroix and David sections in the French paintings were highlights for me.
