Nottingham Self-Guided Walking Tour

Welcome to Helen’s self-guided tour around Nottingham, a modern, forward-thinking city with its roots firmly in the past. I am a Chartered Geographer with around 30 years’ experience of teaching secondary school students and leading fieldwork. I live close to Nottingham and have friends that live here. There’s so much to discover about the city and if you want to visit some tourist attractions, you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice as there are so many fantastic ones, all within walking distance. We begin our tour at the Old Market Square. We’ll walk in a roughly circular route, taking in sights such as the Park Tunnel, the castle, a pub dug into a cliff and a tunnel dug out of the sandstone beneath the ground. We’ll end our tour in the same location where we began. The route is around 2.5 miles in length and should take around 3 hours to complete. Nottingham is a city with subterranean features, so there will be steps to descend and a large tunnel to walk through. Throughout the tour, I’ll be revealing some insider recommendations and uncovering local haunts – I can guarantee you won’t be short of places to stop off and rest for a while. There are public toilets in the library at stop 12, and many places to sit and drink with toilets along the way. The sites that don’t have many facilities are sites 3 to 7.
