Overview

Here we are in Venice, one of the most beautiful cities in the world! Discover Venice with a self-guided audio walking tour that helps you move through the city with confidence, so you can understand where you are, avoid getting lost in dead ends and enjoy the walk instead of worrying about directions. Venice can only be explored on foot and without guidance it’s easy to keep circling the same streets. This tour is designed to guide you effortlessly. My name is Mariacristina, and I’ll be guiding you through the city as a local voice who knows both its famous landmarks and its quieter corners. My aim is to help you navigate Venice safely and clearly, giving you the context you need as you walk, without overwhelming you. I focus on clarity, orientation and meaningful details, so the city gradually starts to make sense. The starting point is the train station, one of Venice’s main gateways and often the first real encounter with the city for those arriving by land. From here, you gradually enter the urban fabric, moving from a more functional Venice into its historic and central area. It’s an ideal way to get your bearings and understand how the city is laid out. If you prefer, you can also start from the final point and walk the route in reverse. Along the way, you’ll experience places such as: • The Jewish Ghetto, old and new, and its quiet residential atmosphere • Areas linked to Marco Polo and Venice’s mercantile past • Historic fields, bridges, and streets where local life still unfolds The audio accompanies you as you walk, offering stories, explanations and practical orientation exactly when they’re useful. You’ll hear about how Venice works as a city, how people lived here and why certain places look the way they do. I’ll also point out spots where Venetians traditionally stop for lunch or an aperitivo, including authentic bacari where cicchettis are part of daily life. You can pause whenever you like, take breaks, sit down for a drink, or linger somewhere that catches your attention. You can resume at any time, without losing the thread. The tone is conversational and designed for walking, not for standing still. This tour is ideal if you want to reach St. Mark’s Square through a thoughtful, less obvious route, understand Venice as you move through it, and avoid wandering aimlessly or feeling overwhelmed by the city’s complexity. 👉 Important ticket tips: St. Mark’s Basilica, the Bell Tower and the Doge’s Palace require tickets and booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially in high season. The Jewish Ghetto, neighbourhoods, streets, squares and most of the route can be enjoyed freely without tickets. And now, let's begin our visit!

This was the best way to walk from the train station to San Marco without feeling lost. Mariacristina's directions were spot on and we actually enjoyed the walk instead of stressing about where to turn.

Lots of good info, especially the Jewish Ghetto section. Four hours is a long tour though so we split it over two days which worked fine with the audio.

The ghetto was the highlight for me. Had no idea it was the first in Europe and that the word itself comes from Venice. Really glad we didn't skip it.

Perfect for our first morning in Venice. Arrived at the station, started the audio and just followed along. The bit about the Palazzo Labia and the Ball of the Century was a great story.

Good route and solid commentary but some of the later stops near San Marco felt a bit rushed compared to the beginning. Still worth it for the navigation alone.
